Francisco. Oldtown Salinas boasts a large selection of restaurants,
antique shops and other amenities. The
Steinbeck House, John Steinbeck's birthplace and boyhood home,
is located a short two block walk from the Center.
The
Steinbeck House is operated as a restaurant by the Valley Guild,
a nonprofit organization and is open for lunch Monday through Saturday.
The
Salinas Valley and Monterey Peninsula host millions of tourists
each year. Links to regional attractions and tourist information
are located here.
Monterey
County is home to world renowned wineries, championship golf courses,
Laguna Seca Raceway, Pebble Beach, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and
Cannery Row. The Salinas Valley is the most prolific fresh vegetable
growing region in the world and home to Fresh Express Farms, Mann's
Sunny Shores, Foxy Lettuce and many more companies specializing
in lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower and celery. Salinas Valley agriculture
was central to many of John Steinbeck's stories. Special agriculture
and winery related tours can be arranged by the National Steinbeck
Center and our cafe features a complete selection of Salinas Valley
fresh salads and Monterey County wines.
