LOCAL HISTORY
Items in Local History collection include, a 1918 El Gabilan yearbook from Salinas Union High School; the Master Plan of the City of Monterey from 1939; Salinas Historical and Architectural Resources Surveys; various maps of the Salinas Valley, and clippings about the National Steinbeck Center as well as social and agricultural history.
In addition to having information about and finding aids pertaining to Salinas Valley history, books, walking tours, typescripts, and photographs concerning the Monterey Peninsula and Carmel area are also in the collection. Built in 1868, the first mayor's house of Salinas City known as the "Harvey-Baker House" will chronicle local history in of the 1890s. Visit www.firstmayorshouse.org for more information.
