THE STEINBECK HOUSE

FACTS ABOUT THE STEINBECK HOUSE
On February 27, 1974, Valley Guild, a volunteer, nonprofit organization opened the newly restored Steinbeck House as a charming restaurant. The Steinbeck House is John Steinbeck's birthplace and boyhood home. Photos and memorabilia are on display.   Serving lunch Monday through Saturday, the house is located at 132 Central Avenue, a short two block walk from the National Steinbeck Center.  Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The daily set menus feature local Salinas Valley produce, Monterey County wines and beer. Catered private parties are available. Breaking with a long time tradition, the Steinbeck House now features open seating. Reservations are accepted, but not necessary

The Steinbeck House also hosts the Best Cellar Gift Shop with John Steinbeck books, Steinbeck House Cookbooks and special gifts for everyone.
