SCHOOL
FIELD TRIPS
Discover
a place where literature and history jump off the printed page and
into the imagination!
John
Steinbeck and his writings are
studied in schools across California,
as well as throughout the United
States and the world. Since the
opening of the National Steinbeck
Center in 1998, thousands of school
children have visited each year
as part of our fieldtrip program.
The interactive exhibitions and
age-appropriate activities help
create a fun and educational outing
for your students, from elementary
through high school.
THE
VALLEY
OF
THE
WORLD
AGRICULTURAL
WING
The Valley of the World Agricultural Wing is now open at the National Steinbeck Center!
With a strong focus on the individuals, immigrant groups, and families that shaped
Salinas Valley Agriculture, this innovative exhibition is an educational adventure for
students across California. The multi-media experience features audio clips,
photographs, film footage, personal memorabilia, unique tools, and clothes and artifacts
used throughout the decades. The exhibition also features interactive computer
stations illustrating the science of agriculture as well as personal histories of the families
that have worked in the industry. Current topics such as water and land use,
innovations, and labor issues are highlighted in the Valley of the World exhibition.
ART & CULTURAL
EXHIBITS
To enhance your students experience at the National Steinbeck Center, take advantage
of our special art and cultural exhibits. These high-quality exhibits vary greatly in
content and medium, from landscape paintings from the 1930s to produce crate labels
to photography.
We
loved
the
museum!!
We
traveled
over
200
miles
(one
way)
and
it
was
well
worth
it.
The
hands
on
exhibits
really
made
his
books
come
to
life.
My
students
were
extremely
enthusiastic
and
they
took
great
pride
in
completing
every
detail
in
the
treasure
hunt.
Since
I
teach
English,
I
know
that
this
field
trip
has
shown
the
kids
that
writing
is
a
marvelous
form
of
self-expression.
Also,
that
reading
is
a
vital
part
of
their
individual lives. -

I really liked the entire museum
I also thought all
the captions and excerpts from stories told something about the
way he wrote and what he thought. I liked the quote, I nearly
always write, just as I nearly always breathe. It really shows
his passion for literature and writing.-
High School Student
The educational materials you provide for pre and post trip
experiences are excellent. The museum itself is wonderful. Many,
many thanks to you all for the time, training, and intelligence
of this experience.-
