Summer Writing Camp

Have a young writer in your household?

Send them to summer writing camp at the National Steinbeck Center
Don’t let your student’s brain get dusty over the summer. Summer Writing Camp gives students a chance to develop their writing skills long after the bell rings!
During the Young Writers Camp students will:
  • Write a complete and well-conceived original story or parable
  • Practice fiction, nonfiction, journaling, dialogue, plot, and character development
  • Participate in creative brainstorming sessions and investigate the legacy and style of writers like John Steinbeck
  • Engage in exploratory activities and inspirational field trips to local sites connected to Steinbeck
  • Have fun with other campers and be proud to call themselves authors!
On the final day of Writing Camp, campers will present their work to friends and family. Their work will be collected in a printed anthology, of which each camper receives a copy.
